MAKEUP; IT'S MAGIC!
Once upon a time, beauty was dispensed by fairy godmothers. All that these ladies needed in the way of equipment and training was a wand and a good right arm with which to wield it. Presto! And Cinderella was transformed into a beauty. What with mechanization, industrialization, specialization, and one thing and another, life has become vastly more complicated, and the Fairy Godmothers' Guild is no longer in existence. You have taken its place, and a very good thing, too.
If you've never thought of yourself as a modern-day magician, just remember that the things Cinderella received from her godmother are the very gifts for which your client looks to you: external beauty, plus the internal self-confidence which comes when she knows she looks her best. This means more than a hairdo and a tint- it means a complete makeup service as well. The Robert Fiance Makeup Academy was designed to help you help your clients to over-all beauty. As a student, you will find out about makeup magic and how to apply it to your customers. You'll learn how to make color work for you...how changes in lighting affect color. You'll find out how to care for the complexion. And in making makeup work for your customers, it will work for you too, financially.
Now a word to the female readers: YOU ARE THE SHOWCASE OF YOUR OWN ART - AND YOUR ABILITY WILL BE JUDGED RIGHTFULLY BY YOUR OWN APPEARANCE. There's nothing like being beautiful yourself to inspire your clients with faith in your advice. It's up to you to be your own best customer and severest critic. Nothing is more disillusioning to a customer than an "expert" whose own image is a fugitive from the practices you preach. Take my word for it. Better yet, ask your favorite customer. Since the commodities you are selling are glamour, self-confidence, and illusion, you can see that simple neatness on your part is insufficient. Leave the well-scrubbed look to the office workers and the severely pulled back bun to the proverbially bespectacled academicians (untl they come under your guidance, anyway). For you, only the cleanest hair, the newest hairstyle, the smoothest skin, and the most appealing make-up will do. YOU ARE AN AUTHORITY ON BEAUTY AND IT'S UP TO YOU TO LOOK THE PART YOU'VE CHOSEN FOR YOURSELF.
Gentlemen: Noone has to tell you that the most famous movie and television makeup experts are men. It is a well-known fact that women welcome advice and understanding about their looks from a member of the opposite sex; and you owe it to yourself and your business to be thoroughly informed on all phases of feminine glamour. And you should apply to yourself all the sound principles of male grooming in the same measure as that dispensed to the ladies.
That takes care of Cinderella's external beauty. But the fairy godmother gave her something else in addition to physical beauty: self-confidence and probably a little hope. These are a bit outside the cosmetic chemist's art; they should be an integral part of yours. They are the by-products of your smile and your genuine interest in your customer's problem. This combination of art and philosohy which is your profession isn't easy. A bit of both is usually necessary for each client and the amount of each is in your hands. Maybe an expensive hormone cream would help remove the wrinkles from the brow of an over-forty customer. But a whispered word that she doesn't look a day over thirty might smooth out the brow even quicker. It's up to you to make Cinderella's glass slipper fit her perfectly and the Robert Fiance Makeup Academy intends to help make your role of "shoe-fitter" an easy, enjoyable, and expert one.
